FACULTY

Greg Powell has a B.F.A. in fine arts and has taught art activties for 34 years. As an artist, he worked primarily in watercolors for over twenty years. He is a Signature member of the Kentucky Watercolor
Society since 1997. He is affiliated with the Southern Watercolor Society, Artists of Southwestern Indiana, Ohio Valley Art League (board member), and the Henderson Society of Art. He has exhibited in national, large regional shows and in the Tri-State area.

Ginger Adams has over 40 years experience in art and art instruction. She is a graduate of the University of Louisville with a BA in Fine Art and has a double major in painting and humanities. She has studied at Sorbonne University in Paris France, Murray State University where she received her masters in education, and trained at the Ringling School of Art for Summer Watercolor Workshops in Little Switzerland North Carolina. She is a freelance watercolor and mixed media artist that is frequently exhibited in regional and national showings. She has been an art educator in various Kentucky school’s such as Louisville’s Durrett High School, Murray High School, Benton Junior High School, and Reidland Junior High. Her enthusiasm for teaching has provided and inspired many to enter the art world as a profession.

Mary Anne Saag is a Certified Elementary School Art Teacher; previously Arts Program Coordinator for VSA Arts of Florida – Palm Beach County; holds a Bachelor’s degree in fine Arts with a minor in Theater. Ms. Saag currently consults with local area arts councils, centers, agencies, and area county school districts on development of art programs with students of varying disabilities, and is developing an arts curriculum for children with autism.

Tammy Whitmore has an associate of arts degree from Henderson Community College and is working on BIS in Education from Murray State University. Presently Tami teaches Graphic Arts at Henderson County High School. She has owned and operated a Children’s Arts Studio in Henderson, Olive Creative Art Studio. She has worked with the Encore program for the Henderson County School System teaching varies art techniques to children.



Visual Arts Institute Classes for 2008


3001) Introduction to Watercolor (20 Weeks - one class for 4 -8th grades; one class for high school and adults)
Description: This class will focus on understanding materials; mixing colors and techniques of applications; design and composition; unifying shapes, values and colors with an emphasis on personal expression.
•Tuition is $45 a month - $45 non-refundable registration fee (goes toward 1st month tuition.)
•TBA
• A supplies/materials list will be provided for the student to purchase additionally. Supplies are:
BRUSHES: A 3/4 or 1 inch flat brush, #8 or #10 round brush, and a small #5 watercolor brush; PAPER: Strathmore 300 Series Student Watercolor Pad in spiral binder (12 sheets) size 11x15; PAINTS: Watercolor tubepaint in the following colors: Ultramarine Blue or Winsor Blue, Cadmium Red medium, Cadmium Yellow medium (tube sets are O.K.) Instructor likes Winsor Newton Paints, but not required.;
OTHER: Small sketch pad or unlined paper, sketching pencil, masking tape, roll of paper towels, watercolor palette (small round plastic palette with several paint wells is fine.)

3002) Introduction to Visual Arts for Special Needs Students
Description: Introduction to drawing with graphite, pen and ink, and charcoal for teens and adults with special needs classification required special education.
•Tuition TBD
•Class Dates TBD –Call & Inquire
• All supplies/materials will be provided; the cost of which is included in the tuition.
• Students who cannot function independently must be accompanied by a caregiver.
• Limit 12 students.
• Located in RBA Grand Salon.

3003) Introduction to Drawing (17 weeks - one hour classes)
Description: Introduction to drawing using graphite pencils and a sketch pad, students will learn the fundamentals in beginning to sketch and draw figures, still life and landscape in addition to learning elements of shading, art terms and proportions. This class is for junior high age to adult.
•Tuition is $45 a month- $45 non-refundable registration fee (goes toward 1st month tuition)
•Class Time TBD based on registrant requests
•If other times are desired or you have a group of your own, please call to inquire or to be placed on a wait list.
•Student supplies all materials needed by the first class to include: medium size sketch pad, graphite pencils, blending stump, kneaded eraser and regular eraser.
• Limit 12 students.
• Located in RBA Grand Salon.
